- Prep time: 10 mins
- Cook time: 40–45 mins
Ingredients
- 650g pears (approx. 5–6), peeled, cored and cut into 2cm cubes
- 4–5 cardamom pods, seeds crushed to a powder
- 100g light muscovado sugar, plus 2 tbsp
- 100g plain flour

- 100g cold unsalted butter, cubed
To serve (optional):
- Custard, cream or ice cream
Method
- Preheat the oven to 200°C / 180°C fan / gas 6.
- Put the pear chunks into a 23cm round or 20cm square baking dish and toss with ¼ tsp cardamom and 2 tbsp of the sugar, spreading out evenly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and oats. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the remaining sugar.
- Scatter the oat mixture evenly over the pears and bake for 40–45 mins, until golden.
Serve warm with custard, cream or ice cream, if liked.
Keep leftovers covered and chilled in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat to warm through before serving.
